The SUUS Social Justice Committee presents – Dr. Bruce Hector, Physician, with an informative presentation from PNHP on the Medicare for ALL initiative with an opportunity for Q & A afterwards. Our guest speaker will also be playing two original musical numbers – protest songs to help raise awareness around the need for Healthcare for ALL.
Dr. Bruce Hector has spent more than 45 years as a family practitioner in the SFV and has been actively supporting a “Medicare for All” plan as a member of Physicians for a National Health Program (PNHP) since 2008. He is former co-chair of the San Fernando Valley Chapter of Healthcare for All (HCA).
His medical career has encompassed delivery system changes from the start of Medicare/Medicaid when he entered medical school through initiation of HMO’s, PPO’S, EPO’s and all their iterations as private small group practicing physician. In 1992 he created a not-for–profit, Mission City Community Clinic to serve the uninsured.
He will speak about our broken healthcare system, federal Medicare for All legislation sponsored by John Conyers’ H.R. 676 (Expanded and Improved Medicare for All Act) as well as the positives and negatives of the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare).
He will also discuss SB 562, the California bill that recently approved by our State Senate and is with the State Assembly now. SB 562 will offer comprehensive ‘Medicare for All’ coverage to all California residents.
Dr. Hector will offer 2 healthcare-related advocacy songs he has written for group participation.
