PERSISTENCE – August 28, 2016

Achieving a chosen goal takes many essential qualities—and chief among them is Persistence – “the quality of continuing steadily despite problems or obstacles.”  Robert Weekley has innumerable life achievements including being awarded four bronze stars for “meritorious service in a combat zone”, being a Co-founder of UUFR (Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rapphannock), and a marathon runner at age 60.  Discover how persistence has been a key element to his life success.

For the last 20 years  Bob Weekley has been an active Unitarian Universalist committed and supporting UU principles and causes. He is a co-founder of the UUFR (Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Rappahannock) in Lancaster, Virginia where he served as President of the Board and for many years and continues to lend his help.
 
He is a foreign policy expert with over forty years of advanced studies, teaching, military specialization, government service, and international business. He taught international relations as Assistant, Professor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y. During the Vietnam War he served two tours and earned four Bronze Stars for meritorious service.  During his military career he also was a negotiator in arms control negotiation with the Soviet Union and on the U.N. Committee on Disarmament dealing with weapons of mass destruction. He served in the Office the Secretary of Defense as an expert on European and NATO policy. Attaining the rank of colonel he served abroad with several U.S. diplomatic missions in the conduct of U.S. foreign policy.
Subsequent to his military service he spent fifteen years in international business where he was employed by several large corporations and was a founding partner of a Washington, D.C., based company involved in the development of energy and communication infrastructure projects in Russia, Eastern Europe, and other countries of the former Soviet Union. He also was president of the American Chamber of Commerce of Cuba in the United States.
Bob graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point (1959). New American University in Washington, D.C. (MA in International Studies at the U.S. Army Command and Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; and the Army War College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He is married to Elaine Weekley and their home is in Lancaster, Virginia.
