Easter Egg HuntHost: Teri I

At long last our Easter Egg hunt is back! We will have eggs packed with goodies hidden all around the church. We have put a special surprise in a few eggs, so your child can start a savings account, maybe.

The Egg hunt will begin after the service. During the service the children will have UU Play and Learning Trays they can take to their seats.

Starting April, SepulvedaUU will be implementing Children’s Play and Learning Trays during our Sunday Experience. Near the entrance to our Sanctuary, children ages 4 – 12 can pick up “Play and Learning Trays” and bring them to their seats.

The theme will change each Sunday, but these trays may include different materials so that the children can write, draw, paint, build, and even answer thought-provoking questions.

This Sunday, for example, the Play and Learning Tray will include:

  • A Chalice
  • A jar of stickers and Affirmations from the congregation
  • Writing and art materials
  • Questions that the children can think about, for example, what are ways I can care for myself, my family, my friends, and our Earth / Community?

Our hope is that the children will have fun and learn, and also have a chance to be introspective. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Teri I for more information.

We hope to see you and your whole family this Sunday!

Dear Supporter,

As a current or past pledging member or friend of the SepulvedaUU community, you are part of a loving congregation that is guided by our Unitarian Universalist principles and our shared experiences of reverence and awe, commitment to social justice, diversity, inclusiveness, and encouragement of the cultural arts.

In the past year, we have been good Stewards of your gifts, as we dedicated our assets to the hiring of a full time Minister who brings inspiration, warmth, and leadership to our congregation. We have continued to re-energize our community by offering new and exciting programs on education, fellowship, and spiritual growth. We have come together to begin working on our dreams of social justice, and we are committed to being a Fair Share Congregation through our contribution to National UU Organizations. We have many ideas and dreams that we are working on to make us more visible and viable to our Community.

Pledges and contributions are a major portion of our revenue. This comes from folks like yourself that wish to join us in continuing to offer a home for spiritual growth, friendship, fellowship, and social justice. The realization of our dreams for our future are in your hands.

Please Click Here to pledge or contribute as you are best able.

Thank you for your support of the community we share, and for your participation in the realization of our shared dreams.

In Loving Community,

The Stewardship Team

Host: Rev Gordon
When: 10:00 am Beginning May 4 and Continuing on every Saturday for 6 Sessions
Where: Zoom Room 1

Join us as we meet for six sessions developed to engage our feelings, thoughts, prejudices, and more, as we watch, read, and listen to voices from a wide spectrum of ethnic, racial, and religious groups.

Our goal will be to unpack our own complicity with the linked oppressions and develop the ability to move past the issues that separate our human family.

The last few months have been challenging in many ways. I am finally back and able to get around in
limited capacity. I am so happy to be able to attend our services and share time with everyone. I am
also very grateful for everyone in the congregation who showed up for me in some way, whether it was
taking on meeting, visiting or sending a card. This is what community is about, being there for each
other during the hard times and the good times.

I have been busy making plans with the Board and with Rev. Gordon. There are several things in the
works and you will be hearing more in the coming weeks. We are planning a second town hall in March
that will be held on Zoom. I urge everyone to attend. This is your opportunity to provide input and
vision for the future. It is important that all voices are heard. We had the kick-off meeting for our
chapter of the Progressive Interfaith Alliance, I was happy to see 9 participants at the meeting. I am
looking forward to what we can build together.

There are exciting things starting to happen here at Sepulveda UU.

Town Hall MeetingTheme: Love as Transformation
Hosts: Rev Gordon, Janet L
10:00 am PTZOOM Room 1

Good day, dear SepulvedaUU members, friends and leaders!

I am considering our next Town Hall and some of what I’d love to see happen. Some of what I’d love to see us achieve. Some of what I would like to hear from you.

We, as you well know are at a critical moment in our congregational life.

  • A reflection point.
  • A visioning point.
  • A moment to dream big and discern later the exact ways to make it happen!

What is our congregation’s vision? What is the future for SepulvedaUU? What do we promise / covenant with each other? What is the legacy you’d like to leave for future generations? How do we make an impact or difference in the SF Valley / Los Angeles? How do we serve each other and build the best SepulvedaUU we can be?

Let me ask each of you to join us this coming Saturday.

Town Hall 2
Saturday – March 23, 2024
10:00 -12:00 pm PT
Via Zoom: (Zoom Room 1)

The vision is where you are heading: “we will be / see..” Vision is future-oriented and focuses on where we are going. A congregational vision is an idealistic dream, so it inspires and speaks to the heart. A vision is ‘seen’ with eyes of faith and is ‘felt’, bringing shape to tomorrow. The vision reveals the destination, to be steered and moved towards. The vision for SepulvedaUU will require mind, body, and spirit, so to speak.

The mind: All of the wisdom, and all of the knowing about congregational life and UU faith need to be considered. Ultimately, how does a congregation feed and serve me and others?

The body: Yes, our individual bodies and how we feel when engaged in the congregation’s life, work, and deeds. But more importantly, how does the body / life of the congregation act in the life of me, others members, the community? What are we doing?

Spirit / Soul: For some of you, this may seem irrelevant? But for many of us, our spiritual being, our internal voice, soul, if you will, this should be fed. Should be growing. Should be important to your life within the spiritual realm or religious life of a congregant. So how has or how will SepulvedaUU feed you?

I’m looking forward to being with you Saturday. This meeting and our congregational meeting will tell us a lot about what is important. What you are willing to do to achieve it? What do you ultimately want this congregation to be?

  • Question to spur the vision: The DREAM…
  • Don’t get stuck in the details or small stuff now.
  • How many members do you think we need to have to be a viable congregation?
  • How do we interact with the larger community? What are the ways?
  • How many staff might you imagine?
  • Do you want a music music director? Do you want a choir?
  • What should we do about children? How about a Religious Education program K-12?
  • Young adult ministry?
  • Men’s group?
  • Women’s group?
  • What kinds of Programs might you dream of?
  • Death Cafe, Book groups, writing workshops, arts, pottery, theater, and drama offered?
  • What do you want to do for fun? What is fun within a SepulvedaUU context?
  • Social Justice, what does that look like for you by us? By this congregation doings?
  • How do we attract people from all age groups?
  • What about a campus ministry?
  • What about our space that we rent? Do we need another place? What about the time of day?
  • What about partnering with other UU congregations or other faith communities to get things done in the Valley? What does the dream look like?

So, dear ones, I’ve suggested a few thoughts here. How about you come to the session on Saturday with your thoughts. Your visions. Your dreams. We need you now, maybe more than ever! No debates here! Just your brilliant ideas even if you don’t think they are brilliant! We need you to survive!

In deep and abiding faith,

Rev Gordon Clay Bailey

March 2024

“Transformation isn’t about adding more work to your life; it’s about shifting your perspective so life becomes more fun, magical, and joyful.”

-Sheri Salata

The quote above helps me in so many ways.  This month at SepulvedaUU, we will be exploring Love as Transformation. Well, what exactly is that? To tell the truth, it is as varied as the human experience. Yet, from a UU perspective, from a spiritual perspective, how can we transform ourselves into the creation we want to be? Work, yes! Shifting perspectives, yes! Loving more, a resounding yes!

Once we find the sweet spot, more joy, more fun, more magic is possible.  Come join us in March as women’s history, UU-ism, and rebirth all come alive.
