A Word from Rev Gordon …

A Word from Rev Gordon …

March 2024 “Transformation isn’t about adding more work to your life; it’s about shifting your perspective so life becomes more fun, magical, and joyful.” -Sheri Salata The quote above helps me in so many ways.  This month at SepulvedaUU, we will be exploring Love as Transformation. Well, what exactly is that? To tell the truth, it is as varied as the human experience. Yet, from a UU perspective, from a spiritual perspective, how can we transform ourselves into the creation we want to be? Work, yes! Shifting perspectives, yes! Loving more, a resounding yes!  Once we find the sweet spot, more joy, more fun, […]

February 2024 Beloved Community, As we enter the second month of the year, known as Black History month in the United States, a shout-out to Carter G. Woodson. Woodson’s devotion to showcasing the contributions of Black Americans bore fruit in 1926 when he launched Negro History Week in the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Woodson’s concept was later expanded into Black History Month. So, during this month I will share as much as I can of Blackness from an American in the United States, and from a global perspective. How […]

President’s Corner

President’s Corner

I am both excited and sad to give this message from the Board this month. I am happy because it gives me an opportunity to speak to directly to you but saddened because I am doing this because our beloved President is under the weather. Though you may not have noticed because she has been a number of our activities virtually, Janet suffered from a fall this past month and is taking some time to recuperate. She is recovering well and I’m sure she would love your well wishes. You can email her at JanetL@SepulvedaUU.org. She is planning to back […]

A Word from Rev Gordon

A Word from Rev Gordon

Our spiritual theme for this month is Divine Light: Marvelous Light “Spirituality is recognizing the divine light that is within us all. It doesn’t belong to any particular religion; it belongs to everyone” Muhammad Ali Light is a source of illumination, whether a natural one (like the sun) or an artificial one (like your lamp). Like light itself, the word can take a lot of different forms — it can be a noun, an adjective, or a verb, and it can mean “bright” or “not heavy”. Therefore, Light, when we move from theory, speculation, possibility, plans, hopes, and good intentions […]

November:  Love as Interdependence

November:  Love as Interdependence

What is interdependent love? An interdependent relationship is a type of relationship dynamic where both partners recognize the importance of their emotional bond while having a solid sense of who they are as individuals outside of their relationship. Most of us grow up believing that our romantic partners are supposed to “complete” us. Some of us even imagine that friends and others are here to uphold who and what we are. This is not always the case. We have to often negotiate the parameters of our relationships.  We should never assume what the context is. Right relationship requires us to […]
