We welcome you to our Death Cafe. It is a respectful space where you can feel comfortable sharing your questions, curiosity, fears, beliefs, and stories about any / all aspects of death, grief, mourning, bereavement. We have learned that there is often lots of laughter, as well as a few tears. We will start in May and meet bimonthly for 1.5 hours. During the sessions we will try writing, maybe delivering eulogies, writing living wills, consider burial options, cremation, video remembrances, create a song list for your memorial service, and so much more. This isn’t morbid or sad, it is […]

A Word From Rev Gordon
February 2024 Beloved Community, As we enter the second month of the year, known as Black History month in the United States, a shout-out to Carter G. Woodson. Woodson’s devotion to showcasing the contributions of Black Americans bore fruit in 1926 when he launched Negro History Week in the second week of February to coincide with the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass. Woodson’s concept was later expanded into Black History Month. So, during this month I will share as much as I can of Blackness from an American in the United States, and from a global perspective. How […]
Teri Ismail
Teri was nudged into Sepulveda Unitarian Universalist Society. It was green, at least in the spring and the beginning of summer. The grass was tall and the ladybugs were hiding in the grass. The neighbor had chickens and the other one had horses. They’re gone now. They were conducting a play in those days. They seemed to have one a year old. Teri enjoyed being involved in them. Her child played them as well, and she was three years old at the time and is now 45. SepulvedaUU was Teri’s refuge from the city. Ahhh, but things change. Change is […]
