Continuing Conversations with Rev Gordon: Spirit of the New Year

Jan 2026

Beloved Community,

As we enter the new year, we find ourselves at a crossroads, not just as individuals, but as the vibrant community that is the Sepulveda Unitarian Universalist Society. This moment invites us to turn inward—to search our hearts, bodies, and spirits—as we reflect on our collective journey and envision the possibilities ahead.

“What we seek is what we are,” reminds us that our intentions shape our actions and can lead us toward the visions we hold dear.

What is it that we are up for?

What covenant will we live into as we move forward together? As we contemplate our UU faith, let us consider the long-held dreams that may have been set aside. What aspirations can we bring to life in 2026?

It is essential that we examine our world through the lens of compassion and discernment. How can we contribute to making this place a better home for all? How do we live our best lives, both for ourselves and in service to our community?

Our theme for January is “The Sacred Work of Repair.” This new year calls us to embark on a journey of healing—repairing what has been broken in ourselves, in our relationships, and in the world around us. True repair is not a simple process; it requires truth-telling, accountability, and a willingness to begin anew.

Throughout this month, we will engage in discussions and activities aimed at fostering understanding and repairing connections, both within our community and beyond. I encourage each of you to embrace this opportunity for growth and healing. Together, let us commit to the sacred work ahead, allowing our shared values to guide us as we take meaningful steps toward a harmonious future. One filled with yet unknown outcomes but blessed by the good people of SepulvedaUU and the call to action this nation, this state, this city needs.

As we begin this new chapter, let us join in the spirit of prayer for the New Year:

Spirit of Love and Community

As we step into this new year, guide us with compassion and clarity.
Help us to repair the rifts in our hearts and relationships,
To seek truth in our interactions and accountability in our actions.
May we be filled with hope and courage,
As we envision a world where all are valued and cherished.
Let us embrace our interconnectedness,
And commit ourselves to the sacred work of healing.
May this year be marked by love, understanding, and the realization of our fullest potential together.
Ashe, Blessed Be.

May this new year be a time of renewal, connection, and transformative action.

In community and love,

Rev Gordon
