Day 16. Honoring BIPOC Leadership – Recognizing Contributions and Voices.

Today, we shine a spotlight on the vital role of BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) leadership within communities. Recognizing and celebrating the contributions of BIPOC leaders is essential to fostering a truly inclusive and equitable community.

Why Honoring BIPOC Leadership Matters

Acknowledging BIPOC leadership is not just about recognition—it is about justice, equity, and belonging. Historically, faith-based spaces have often centered white perspectives, which can marginalize BIPOC voices. By uplifting BIPOC leadership, we:

  • Challenge White Supremacy Culture: Shifting power dynamics to create more equitable spaces
  • Enrich Our Faith Tradition: Drawing on diverse lived experiences and wisdom
  • Model Inclusion: Demonstrating the transformative power of multicultural leadership

How We Can Support BIPOC Leadership

  • Create Opportunities: Ensure BIPOC individuals have access to leadership roles and resources for professional growth
  • Listen and Learn: Center BIPOC voices in conversations about equity and inclusion
  • Invest in Development: Provide scholarships, mentorship, and other support for emerging leaders
  • Challenge Bias: Address systemic barriers and implicit biases within the systems and structures we navigate

Books to Celebrate and Support BIPOC Leadership

  • “Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation: A Guide for Faith Communities,” by Rev Dr Sharon Leslie Morgan and Thomas Norman DeWolf
  • “The Inclusive Leader: Taking Intentional Action for Justice and Equity,” by Dr Artika R Tyner

An Invitation to Reflect

Who are the BIPOC leaders in your community who have inspired you? How can you support and celebrate their work?

Today, let us honor the BIPOC leaders who guide our movement toward greater justice and inclusion. Their voices remind us that wholeness is possible only when all are seen, heard, and valued.

Wholeness is not a fixed state; it is an evolving practice of acceptance, compassion, and justice. Together, let us explore what it means to bring wholeness into our own lives, our congregations, and the broader world.
