Day 2. Embracing Atheism as a Sacred Path.
The journey to wholeness takes a path that doesn’t include belief in a deity. Today, we celebrate atheism as a sacred path and honor those who find meaning, purpose, and transcendence without the concept of God.
Atheism in Context
We hold a uniqueness in its embrace of theological diversity, including atheism. Here, atheists are not only welcomed but also celebrated as integral members of our community. Many atheists draw upon personal reflection to guide their lives, centering values such as compassion, justice, and respect for the interdependent web of all existence.
For atheists, the sacred may be found in nature, human connection, or the awe-inspiring mysteries of the universe. Wholeness is not about adhering to a particular creed; it’s about living in alignment with one’s values and striving to build a better world.
Finding Meaning Without Deity
For many atheists, spiritual wholeness often involves:
- Living Ethically: Grounding daily actions in principles of kindness, fairness, and sustainability
- Cultivating Wonder: Embracing the awe and mystery of existence without needing supernatural explanations
- Building Community: Finding connection and purpose in shared efforts to create a just and equitable world

An Invitation to Reflection
What does it mean to embrace atheism as a sacred path? For those of us who don’t identify as atheists, how can we support and celebrate the atheists in our community?
Today, let us affirm that wholeness is possible without belief in a deity and recognize the unique contributions of atheists to our shared journey toward a more just and compassionate world.

Wholeness is not a fixed state; it is an evolving practice of acceptance, compassion, and justice. Together, let us explore what it means to bring wholeness into our own lives, our congregations, and the broader world.
