After earning a degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Michigan, Fadell started his career at General Magic, where he worked on some of the earliest concepts for handheld devices.

His most famous breakthrough came when he joined Apple Inc. in 2001 as the Senior Vice President of the iPod Division. Tasked with creating a portable music player, Fadell led the team that designed and developed the first iPod—a device that changed the music industry forever.
