From Amen to Action (05/10)

In our UU tradition, we covenant not around creed, but around how we live together. And in the Black sacred tradition, “Amen” is not the end of a word—it is the beginning of a witness. It means: let it be real in me.
This sermon explores what it means to move from shared values to shared practice, drawing from the deep well of communities that have long understood that faith must be lived out loud. Interdependence becomes visible when our care crosses lines, when our compassion becomes courage, and when our principles take on flesh in our daily lives. This is the work of becoming a people, not just in name, but in action.
“Love is the doctrine of this church, the quest for truth is its sacrament, and service is its prayer.” — Rev. L. Griswold Williams
Matching Funds w/ API Rise
We are proud that each month SepulvedaUU is able to match every dollar given in our Second Sunday Offering. Contributions beyond regular pledges are doubled, turning our shared collection into an even greater source of support for local charities.
API Rise, our Matching Funds Recipient of the Month during Asian Pacific Islander Heritage Month, embodies UU commitments to justice, equity, and the inherent worth of every person by empowering API communities impacted by incarceration. Their anti-recidivism efforts through prison in-reach, reentry support, and community care deeply resonate with our congregation’s dedication to restorative justice and dismantling systemic oppression.
MORE ABOUT API RISE
API RISE advances freedom and liberation for current and formerly incarcerated API individuals, youth, and families via culturally sensitive direct services, education, power-building, and advocacy. Key programs include trauma-informed case management, support groups, healing circles, storytelling, and partnerships for housing, employment, and substance abuse treatment. Founded by diverse leaders to uplift marginalized API voices in the prison system, they foster peer networks, mentorship, and economic empowerment.
Your generosity truly makes a difference. Please plan ahead for your giving to help us continue doubling our impact!
