Monthly Theme: Love as TransformationSpeaker: Joanne Culver

Joanne Culver (she/her) is a dedicated mental health and substance use counselor, advocate, and educator specializing in co-occurring disorders within the LGBTQ+ community. As the owner of Diversity Counseling of Nevada, she is committed to creating an inclusive and affirming space, particularly for transgender individuals and transgender veterans.

A proud transgender woman, Joanne began her transition in 2016 and has since used her lived experience to empower others navigating their own journeys. With a Master’s degree in Addiction Counseling from Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School, she brings a deep understanding of trauma, identity, and resilience to her work.

Joanne’s passion extends beyond the therapy room—she is an outspoken advocate for transgender visibility, equity, and mental health awareness. Through workshops, public speaking, and community engagement, she strives to foster understanding and support for transgender individuals in all areas of life.

In addition to her professional work, Joanne enjoys strategy games, reading, and dreaming of a trip to Scotland. She also remains active in recovery, celebrating sobriety since 2007.

The Sunday Experience
4:30 pm – Welcome and Hospitality
5:00 pm – Evening Service (ZOOM Opens)
6:00 pm – Refreshments
6:30 pm – Continuing Conversations

Often, the journey toward transformation begins with love for oneself. In this sermon, we’ll reflect on the importance of self-compassion and acceptance within the Unitarian Universalist framework. We will discuss how nurturing self-love not only impacts our individual lives but also enhances our capacity to love others and contribute to societal change.

Children’s Play and Learning Trays: Children are welcome to join the adults in the Sunday Experience. They will be provided Children’s Play and Learning Trays, which contain various activities so that the children can participate in during the Sunday service. If you have any questions, please contact Teri I.

All are invited on Sunday evening at 4:30 pm for welcome and hospitality as we gather for our evening Service. Our Service begins at 5:00 pm and lasts approximately one hour after which all are invited to enjoy conversation and refreshments.

All are welcome!
