President’s Corner: Practice of Renewal
October 2025
Dear Beloved Community,
As summer fades and we settle into fall, I want to share a few reflections and updates from your Board of Trustees and from my heart.
On September 20, the Board gathered for our annual retreat, a time set aside for visioning and recommitting ourselves to the mission and future of SepulvedaUU. We are centering our work ahead on these powerful questions: In these challenging times, what do we stand for? And just as importantly, how do we want to grow in spirit, community, and impact?
We collectively believe, now more than ever, that Unitarian Universalism has something deeply important to offer the world: a path grounded in love, justice, and inclusion.
For me personally, coming to Sunday service is more than routine; it is a practice of renewal. It is where I pause, breathe, and reconnect with my values. It is a space where I am reminded of the world I want to help build, a world centered in love.
Each week, I listen for the words that speak to our UU principles. Words inviting us to be compassionate, brave, and sometimes to stretch ourselves even further. I am often challenged to consider how we might be even more radically welcoming, not just within our walls but in how we show up in the wider world.
So, I invite you to reflect, too: What do you value and why is SepulvedaUU important to you?
Let’s share those reflections:
- In our conversations on Sundays
- With newcomers who walk through our doors
- With friends and family who may be searching for meaning and community
This congregation thrives when we tell the story of why being a part of it matters.
Looking forward, the board of trustees are committed to discerning a shared path forward, one that reflects our values and invites new energy into our community. In the coming months, we will continue to deepen conversations about our vision, our programs, and our place in the wider world.
And as always, we are here to serve and to listen. We welcome your thoughts, your hopes, and your feedback.
Thank you for being part of SepulvedaUU. Together, we are creating something beautiful and needed: a sanctuary for the spirit, and a community for justice and joy.
In loving service,
Janet
