Looking for the Great Awakening in the USA and in Us

Although the first Great Awakening in the United States was a reaction against the
Enlightenment, it was also in many ways part of the long term cause of the Revolution
and beyond.
The groundbreaking that started so long ago I believe has reverberations that continue
to this day. Exciting ideas are being posited by the young and not so young. New
faiths continue to emerge. Our UUA is in a state of change with a new president and
new notions about what is at the core of being UU.
For many the overall message is clear and greater equality and inclusion are the call.
The Great Awakening in its first incarnation was also a “national” occurrence. It was the
first major event that all the original 13 colonies could share, helping to break down
differences between them.
It is my hope that Unitarian Universalism is on the cutting edge of where we as a nation
and world are heading. Let our community be truly a place for ideas to be shared and
considered. Let SUUS be Interfaith and open for people from all perspectives. Let the
new awakening in our association touch us and give us the will to share the light, the
love, the compassion that is required to heal a hurting nation and world.
Join us at SUUS on the 17th for an engaging service filled with possibilities.
Quotes to consider-
“It is possible to experience an awakening in this life through realizing just how
precious each moment, each mental process, and each breath truly is.”
-Christy Turlington.
” Our own heart is our temple. The philosophy is kindness.”
-Dalai Lama.
