Kevin Al Perez is a proud queer Guatemalan born and raised in San Fernando Valley, CA. Kevin’s movement work began together with his mother, who introduced him to neighborhood council meetings, union meetings, and school advocacy work as a child. It is through these local involvements Kevin was empowered and encouraged to practice community organizing and strategizing for social change throughout his lifespan. Currently, Kevin is the President and Co-Founder of Somos Familia Valle, a local gender and racial justice LGBTQ+ organization. In June 2023, he was recognized as a California State Capital Pride Honoree. Kevin will speak on current work and growth of the LGBTQ+ movement in the San Fernando Valley.

Children’s Play and Learning: Can you make a chalice out of a pot? You can and then decorate it and have your chalice to light at home. You can search Youtube for the book, “A Cup of Light” to learn more about the chalice and how to incorporate the lighting of the chalice at home with your family.
