The Mother and the World Below

Myths and folktales from around the world offer numerous stories of Mother Goddesses venturing into subterranean realms, sometimes to re-emerge, sometimes not.  The purposes of these journeys are unique and each offers its own perspective on the image of the Mother, the cycle of the seasons, and–just maybe–the reasons each of us may venture into a dark interior world.
