Continuing Conversations: The Summer of Love: Music, Culture, Spirit, and Beloved Community (07/01)
1 July 2026
This summer, SepulvedaUU is taking a joyful journey through music, culture, spirituality, and social history as we explore some of the most influential eras of the last century. From the swing bands and jazz clubs to country crossroads, rock-and-roll revolutions, soul awakenings, folk movements, disco dance floors, and beyond, we’ll discover how music has shaped our lives, reflected our struggles, and inspired our hopes.
Throughout July and August, I will lead six worship services and six Adult Religious Education classes that explore the sounds, stories, values, and spiritual currents of different eras. Together we’ll examine not only the music itself, but also the social movements, religious trends, cultural transformations, and personal spiritual quests that accompanied these remarkable periods in history.
What was happening in our churches, synagogues, temples, and spiritual communities? How were people searching for meaning? How did movements for justice, freedom, equality, and peace find expression in song? What can these eras teach us today about building Beloved Community?
Expect laughter, memories, learning, and perhaps a few surprises. July and August promise to be a swinging, country, rocking, soulful, and disco-good time!
Come prepared to remember and share. Come ready to listen and learn. Come willing to sing along, tap your feet, and maybe even rap a few lines. There may be moments of joy and moments of reflection. We may laugh together and perhaps even shed a tear as we remember where we’ve been and envision where we are going.
Through music, culture, history, and Unitarian Universalist spirituality, we will celebrate the human journey and explore what it means to create a more loving, just, and compassionate world.
Join us for a Summer of Love:
- Saturdays at 10:00 AM for Adult Religious Education
- Sundays at 5:00 PM for worship.
Come one, come many ~ but come!
Let’s remember boldly, sing loudly, reflect deeply, and imagine together the Beloved Community that is still calling us forward.
I look forward to sharing this Summer of Love with you.
In anticipation,
Rev Gordon
